DescriptionFour letters from Geoffrey Eglinton to Professor Vinogradov spanning the years 1970-1972. Letters concern: a trip to Moscow in 1970 during which Eglinton met with Professor Vinogradov, the progress of Lunar research and the similarity of the research being carried out in Moscow and at University Bristol, and subsequent publications of work on lunar samples. The visit to Moscow appears to have been the initial impetus for requesting lunar samples from the USSR.

Four lettes from Eglinton to Mr J F Hosie of the Science Research Council suggesting an application be made through the Royal Society for lunar samples from the USSR unmanned Luna missions, includes as an enclosure a copy of Eglinton's letter of request to Professor Vinogradov, Director of the Institute of Geochemitry and Analytical Chemistry, Moscow and Vice-President of the USSR Academy of Sciences dated 3 Apr 1972.

'Act of transfer of samples of lunar material to the Royal Society of London by the USSR Academy of Sciences', dated 24 August 1972, signed by A P Vinogradov for the USSR Academy of Science and Sir James Lighthill for the Royal Society. An attachment to the act describes the two samples given: sample L-1627 and L-2015.
