DescriptionCorrespondence of Pillinger and Eglinton with individuals concerned with the separation, allocation and distribution of the UK's Luna 16 and 20 moon samples. Topics covered include: requests for and offers of samples for investigation, handling requirements, avoiding contamination, sample vessels and logistics of distribution, the separation of samples (including a printed copy of the separation scheme and a photocopy of a hand drawn version), SRC and NERC funding of Luna investigations, establishment of a Luna curatorial facility at University of Bristol run by Pillinger and funded by the Royal Society. Also includes a copy of a NASA memo dated June 19 1972 concerning 'Luna 20 Allocation'. It details the characteristics of the NASA sample and lists the names and investigations of the USA prinicipal investigators. Appended is a paper by A P Vinogradov, USSR: 'Preliminary Data on the Lunar Samples Returned by the Automatic Station, Luna 20'.

The majority of the correspondence dates to 1972-1973. There is one letter dated 5 August 1976 in which Pilinger agrees to continue as curator for Luna samples when he transfers from the University of Bristol to Cambridge at the end of August 1976.
