Notes on the samples include details of their packaging and information for each sample. The information given varies but typically includes: weight with and without packaging, sieving carried out, a visual description of the sample, a geological identification of the type of material (often an initial best guess), note of whether photographs were taken and/or taken under a microscope. There are also some descriptions of the results of microscopic investigations and magnetic properties of some samples and inventories of Luna 16 and 20 samples.
This notebook dates to Pilllinger's employment at the University of Bristol, School of Chemistry. The notes are written in the hand of Ann Gowar who was Pillinger's technician. Carbon copy notebook, meaning there are two copies of each page contained in the book. |
