Description | Rix is quite at a loss to know what the 'Book of Office' quoted on Murray's list may mean. It would seem to be some such book as Botfield's 'Manners and Household Expenses' which the Society has, but this is printed too late to be the book quoted. If not a printed book it may have been a manuscript which is certainly no longer in the Society's possession. A great part of the Society's non-scientific manuscripts were given to the British Museum many years ago and others were sold.
In answer to Murray's concluding query, Mr Walter White resigned office in 1885 and died in July 1893. Rix is his successor as Assistant Secretary and Librarian and Mr Alfred White, Walter White's cousin, is Rix's assistant. |
