| Description | Foster once more reiterates the position of the Royal Society in the matter of Scott-Elliot's collections. The Government Grant was made on the condition that the collections made by its help should be at the disposal of the Society. The Society is thus granting a sum of public money and were of the opinion that the collections made should be rendered available for an important work also carried on by the help of public money; namely the Flora of Tropical Africa. Scott-Elliot has heard from Foster as Secretary of the Royal Society and from Sir John Kirk that this is the wish of the Society.
The Society have expressed their decision that the two first sets of specimens should go to Kew [Gardens] and to the British Museum. In all other respects as regards the working out and naming of the specimens the Society, as Foster has more than once said, have no wish to interfere in any way. |
