Dr [Michael] Foster desires me, in answer to your letter of the 12th, to inform you that the following gentlemen were appointed on the Joint Permanent Eclipse Committee at the commencement of the present year, and that notices of their appointment were sent to them: - Capt. [Captain William de Wiveleslie] Abney, Mr [William Henry Mahoney] Christie, Prof. [Professor Robert Bellamy] Clifton, Mr [Andrew Ainslie] Common, Dr [William] Huggins, Mr [Joseph Norman] Lockyer, Prof. [Professor Arthur] Schuster, Mr [Edward James] Stone, Dr G J [George Johnstone] Stoney, General [James Francis] Tennant and Admiral [William James Lloyd] Wharton.
