Title | Copy letter from Michael Foster, to His Excellency, the German Ambassador |
Date | 26 November 1896 |
Description | The Ambassador will doubtless be interested to hear that the Society has this year awarded their Copley Medal and two Rumford Medals to his distinguished countrymen Professor Carl Gegenbaur, a Foreign members of the Royal Society, on account of his life-long researches in comparative anatomy, and Professors Philipp [von] Lenard and Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen, for their investigation of the phenomena produced outside a highly exhausted vacuum tube through which electrical discharge is taking place.
The President and Officers feel that on this account there is special grounds for them to hope that the Ambassador may be able to be present or to be represented at the distribution of the medals, which takes place at the Anniversary Meeting on 30th November at 4pm. |
