Description | Foster, under the direction of the President and Council of the Royal Society, asks the Under Secretary to convey to the Marquis of Salisbury the thanks of the Society for the assistance which the British Government has given to the solar eclipse expeditions to Norway and Japan during the last summer, including obtaining the aid of the Norwegian and Japanese Governments. He also asks that the Marquis convey the Society's thanks to the aforementioned Governments for their aid and support.
In particular, the Society asks that Sir Ernest Satow, Her Majesty's Minister in Tokyo, be assured of the Society's appreciation of the services he rendered to the expedition to Japan. |
