| Description | Rucker has been looking into the subject of Maudslay's paper and found that the article in the 'Encyclopdiea Britannica' about the Maya is singed by [Edward Burnet] Tylor FRS. Rucker's impression is that the Society want an opinion at least as much on whether there is any novelty as to the reading of the hieroglyphs as to the accuracy of the astronomy. Rucker therefore suggests Tylor should be substituted for Ball or added to Ball and Knobel.
As Knobel is not an FRS, Rucker supposes it will be in necessary to obtain the ascent of Darwin's committee before communicating with him. Asks Darwin to write to Harrison regarding his final decision as Rucker is going away tomorrow. |
