TitleCopy letter from [Michael Foster], to the Chairmen of the Sectional Committees: Professor Darwin, Mr Richard Tetley Glazebrook, Sir Archibald Geikie, Mr William Turner Thiselton-Dyer, Professor Edward Albert Sharpey-Schafer, and Professor Edwin Ray Lankester
Date24 July 1897
DescriptionThe President and Council have had under their consideration the interpretation of Standing Order 11, as to whether the phrase 'Suggestions touching the branch of Natural Knowledge' is to include suggestions relating to candidates for election, or to nominations for Foreign Membership or Medals. It has been decided that it is not intended to include these matters.

The particular matter of selection of candidates for election as home of Foreign Members is one respect to which any action of Committees in the way of making suggestions is attended with so many difficulties that that the safest plan seems to be not to include this in the functions assigned to them.
