DescriptionThe President and Council of the Royal Society learn from Professor J [T] W Edgeworth David of the University of Sydney, who during the past autumn has been engaged under the auspices and with the assistance of the Society in carrying out the boring of a coral reef at Funafuti Island., that the SS 'John Williams' and her Commander Captain E C Hore have rendered very cordial and timely assistance to the Expedition.

The London Missionary Society has, through its missionaries and officers often aided scientific research and contributed to the advancement of natural knowledge and the President and Council desire to acknowledge this recent help to science, and beg to tender their thanks to the London Missionary Society and to request that its thanks may also be conveyed to Captain Hore.
