DescriptionIn reply to letter which was addressed to Harrison's predecessor, Mr Herbert Rix, Lieutenant James Holman was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society on 2 February 1826 on general grounds and no specific qualifications were given in his certificate of candidature. There is also a small portrait of him by Chinnery in the possession of the Society and there is a notice of Holman in the 'Encyclopaedia Britannica', volume xii, page 103.
