DescriptionRix is instructed to hand the enclosed [not included] letter of condolence to Queen Victoria from the President, Council and Fellows of the Royal Society [on the death of Prince Frederick William of Prussia, husband of Queen Victoria's daughter, the Queen of Prussia]. Some printed copies have also been enclosed for Posonby's convenience.

An annotation by Herbert Rix at the head of letter records that this ought to have been sent to the Home Secretary, and refers to Ponsonby's acknowledgement of 28 June 1888.
