Description | Encloses two letters to be signed and posted [not included], having altered Mr Pasteur's to the effect that his honorarium is to be between 45 and 50 pounds. Foster is to return the letter to be rewritten if this is incorrect, but Rix pointed out to the President that the expenses of the Croonian Lectures are defrayed out of the Croonian Fund, so there is never £50 available to the lecturer. Last time it was around £44, and Rix believes it better to promise £45 and give £50 than the other way around.
Rix also spoke to the President about Mr Jackson's application and discovered Foster had already mentioned it, and he said that they may consider the minute passed.
Rix has also looked at the matter of John Newport Langley and H M Fletcher and reports that Langley will have his proofs almost immediately. The manuscript was delayed as Rix suspected it was 'barred by the horny sponges'. |
