Title | Copy letter from Sir Michael Foster, to The Secretary, H M Admiralty |
Date | 13 July 1903 |
Description | W Cooke Daniels is about to set out on an expedition for ethnographical, geographical and other scientific enquiry in New Guinea. He will be assisted by Dr Seligman, Dr Strong and Mr Dunning. They are in possession of the schooner yacht St Bernard, now named 'Kon'.
Seligman owns the vessel, but Daniels must be expedition leader in command of the boat, and it is essential for the expedition that it be permitted to fly the Blue Ensign. As Daniels is not a British subject and the rules prohibit him to fly the ensign, the Royal Society asks that the authority be granted to him in the interests of scientific investigation. |
