Title | Copy letter from William Huggins, to James Crichton |
Date | 16 September 1902 |
Description | Has received Crichton's letter of 23 July suggesting that gyrostatic machines driven electrically should be constructed under the auspices of the Royal Society to demonstrate the earth's diurnal motion. The notion of sustaining the rotation of gyrostats for such a purpose by electrical means is not new and attracted attention especially in France, some years ago. Does not consider it at all probable that the Royal Society would be willing to devote any of its funds, urgently needed for other purpose, to what is is rather an illustration of what is already known. |
