A box has arrived from the US Geodetic Survey Office containing (according to letters of advice) a barometer & thermometers which were with the Kater pendulums when they were sent to Professor Peirce. I am instructed by the President to ask you whether this box is to be sent on to Greenwich or to be opened here.
