Title | Copy letter from Joseph Larmor, to Major [Edmond Herbert Grove-]Hills, [Fellow of the Royal Society] |
Date | 24 July 1905 |
Description | The Society has heard from the Foreign Office that the officials at the Customs Houses have been instructed to pass the instruments and luggage of the eclipse parties free and unopened. But customs[?] facilities have not been asked for at French ports for the members of the expedition who are travelling out to Spain via France as it is assumed they will have their personal luggage only. The Spanish Government has been requested to instruct the authorities to afford facilities for the two expeditions. The Foreign Office is applying for letters of recommendation from the Spanish Embassy in London for the observers. Thinks all the Society has to do now is send the names of the observers and amended dates of arrival. Proposes doing this the next day. |
