| Description | In reply to Sir G H Murray's letter of 23 May, 8678/05, asking for particulars of the useful functions discharged by the International Geodetic Association, in the Society's opinion, the end of the Association would necessitate a strengthening of the staff and a co-odinator in some way of the functions of the important surveys conducted by this country at home in India, Africa and other parts of the world. The practical interest of England in such surveys is perhaps greater than that of any other nation, so that an International Association which takes notice of such work, and brings the experience of all nations to bear on it, is of special importance to England.
The Society suggest that the British representative on the present International Geodetic Association, Professor G H Darwin, would be able to supply, if required, details of special pieces of useful work carried through by the Committee. |
