Title | Copy letter from Archibald Geikie, to Dr [Arthur] Schuster, [Fellow of the Royal Society] |
Date | 24 November 1905 |
Description | Has received Schuster's of the previous day and a letter from de Lapparent which Geikie encloses [not enclosed] but asks to have returned. It seems pretty clear to Geikie that France will not join [the International Seismic Organisation] but until they have some definite assurance from the French Government, he does not see that they are at liberty to intimate France's refusal to the Treasury. The Treasury letter is pressing for an answer. Has put the matter down for the Council on 30 November. Geikie is inclined to say nothing about France or the United States. The Society's reply would therefore be mainly with reference to the financial arrangements on the lines suggested in Schuster's previous letter. Asks if Schuster approves of this plan. It would he thinks prevent Perry inside the Council, or Judd outside the council, from making a bother about the matter in its present state. |
