Description | Harrison notes the receipt of letters from Dr Head about the paper on "The Arteries of the Brain" by Dr Beevor, which Martin passed for publication under Standing Order 43, but he explains it has not yet been printed due to a delay to allow the author to revise the paper in line with the referees' recommendations, which he has now done.
Head's query is a difficult one to answer, depending as it does on the extent to which the address he wants to publish will anticipate the paper in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. Professor Joseph Larmor, with whom Harrison has consulted, advised him to refer the matter to Martin, but with a reminder of the recent cases of emphatic refusal of publication by Council on the grounds of publication 'to a substantial extent' elsewhere. Larmor suggests the matter be reserved for Council unless it is clear the requested publication will not conflict with the Society's publication.
Head is anxious to publish his article, but Harrison wishes to avoid prejudicing the author's chances of publication in Philosophical Transactions if he wishes to secure it. He asks that Martin minute his opinion on the enclosed reference form. |
