Description | Harrison explains that the Secretary of the Royal Academy of Arts has written to state that they have changed the lock on the gate, which they claim belongs to them, leading from the Quandrangle into Burlington Gardens, and offering a new key in exchange for the old one. He had discussed the matter with one of the clerk's predecessors and believes that the gate, in common with the whole of the Quadrangle, falls under the jurisdiction of the Office of Works. If so, any transactions relating to the gate should take place between the officers of the learned societies in Burlington House and the Office of Works, not with the Academy of Arts. Furthermore, the key should be given to the Office of Works and a new one obtained from them.
He asks for the official position on the matter, noting that the jurisdiction claimed by the Academy of Arts should be clearly defined. He will take no further action until he has heard from the Clerk of Works. |
