Among the cheques you sent me the other day from members of the Physical Society was one from Captain Thomson, whose death we all saw announced in the paper last week.
It is hardly likely that anyone will wish to receive the Proceedings {of the Royal Society] on his behalf, so I will return the cheque to you on hearing from you that you think that the proper course to pursue.'
