Title | Copy letter from Archibald Geikie, to Dr Charles Chree, Fellow of the Royal Society |
Date | 22 July 1908 |
Description | Geikie thinks that the question of expense ought not to weigh too seriously in the decision as to the reproduction of the curves in the magnetic work. The important thing is to do the work as well and worthily as it deserves. Regarding the breaks in the base lines, the best course would be for the engravers to title them in neatly so as to make the lines continuous. The hours are indicated by the short vertical lines. He should put clearly down in pencil all he wishes to be inserted.
Regarding the scale value of the first plan [?], in the lower half of his letter of 18 July seems preferable. It will take up a little more room and will be a little more expensive, and this is also true of the Christchurch diagrams.
Returns diagrams with the proofs. Asks if he wants the diagrams reproduced at their current size, or if he'd be content with a reduction. If he thinks they could be reduced, requests that he indicate to what extent without losing detail. Geikie thinks it is desirable to keep them to the size of a page, so they will not have to be folded. |
