TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to the Deputy Master of the Mint
Date21 November 1890
DescriptionOn 18 November Rix received from Mr Hill a telegram asking for the collar for the dies of the Darwin Medal, the striking of which the master of the Mint has authorised. Mr Wyon had no collar to fit the dies except one which could not be spared. A collar cannot be made ready in time for the approaching Anniversary. Under these circumstances Rix is instructed to withdraw the request in his letter of 15 November that a silver medal should be struck for the dies. The President and Officers still wish for a bronze copy to be struck as soon as Wyon has finsihed the collar and delivered it with the dies.
