Title | Copy letter from Treasurer RS [Alfred Bray Kempe, Treasurer of the Royal Society] to Lord Rosse |
Date | 6 May 1910 |
Description | The Treausrer laid Mr Boeddicker's letter of April 17th relative to the fund raised by the late Lord Rosse for the maintenance of the Magnetic observations at Valencia Observatory before the Council of the Royal Society.
At their request the Treasurer sent a copy of the letter to the Director of the Meteorological Officer, and informed him that the Council of the Royal Society were willing to consent to the proposal that the fund should be transferred to the Royal Society in trust for the maintenance. In reply to this the Director states that the Meteorological Committee have passed a resolution that the are willing to allow this as long as the Gassiot Committee consider the observations to be necessary and that steps should be taken to provide that in case the observations be discontinued for any reason, the money should be held in trust by the Gassiot Trustees for advancing the 'Science of Terrestial Magnetism in Ireland'.
The Council of the Royal Society would be glad to know whether this meets with Lord Rosse's approval. |
