DescriptionHarrison has been instructed by the Gassiot Committee to inform H M Office of Works that as the result of negotiations which have taken place during the last year between the Royal Society and the Meteorological Committee a scheme has been adopted, with the approval of H M Treasury, for the management of the Observatories at Kew, Eskdalemuir and Valencia, whereby the administration of these is placed under the control of the Director of the Meteorological Office, and the Meteorological Committee undertakes, by proceeds of the Gassiot Fund, to promote such observations and researches as the Gassiot Committee may recommend.

In these circumstances the Gassiot Committee has resolved that the Director of the Meteorological Office have authority to communicate directly with H M Office of Works in any matters connected with the buildings of the Observatories at Kew, Valencia and Eskdalemuir.
