I am instructed to return you the accompanying MS [manuscript] with the explanation that no paper can be brought before the Society unless it is "communicated" by a Fellow of the Royal Society - i.e. it must be endorsed by some F.R.S. as a guarantee of its suitability for reading before the Society.
