DescriptionJames responds to Fownes enquiry concerning the award of the Royal Medal to his uncle George Fownes by quoting an extract from the Council Minutes for 11 November 1847, which refers to his papers published in 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society' for 1845 "On the artificial formation of a Vegeto-Alkali" and "On benzoline".
