Description | Rix states that he knows of only one bookplate of the Royal Society and that it is simply their coat of arms, but it has not been used for almost a century and he is unaware of its location. He further professes himself 'no authority' on bookplates, so declines to write the notice requested, and adds that he is already very busy with work.
He does say that some of the books in the Society's library contain the book plates of Bilibald [or Willibald] Pirckheimer, comprising of two 'beautiful things' engraved by Albrecht Dürer. |
