Title | Copy letter from [Robert William Frederick Harrison, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society]; to Sir Alfred Bray Kempe, Treasurer of the Royal Society |
Date | 11 June 1917 |
Description | Expresses joy at receiving Sir Alfred Bray Kempe's latest letter, taking it to mean that he is on his way to recovery. Consults with Sir Kempe on a pressing matter. Explains that the papermakers have warned they may be unable to continue to obtain paper supplies, which raises the question of either maintaining or postponing publication of Society papers. Notes that Dr. [Arthur] Schuster and others have expressed an interest in maintaining some form of continuous publication. As to the issue of paper supplies, notes that a recent visit from the papermakers divulged that they can ofer another 50 reams of Proceedings paper, however, the price will be considerably higher than usual. Asks Sir Kempe if the Society should pay this fee to secure the same paper which they have used for over 100 years or obtain an inferior paper at a lower price. |
