TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society; to the Secretary, Royal Academy of Arts, [Sir Walter Rangeley Maitland Lamb, KCVO]
Date11 July 1919
DescriptionLetter to the Secretary of the Royal Academy of Arts [Sir Walter Rangeley Maitland Lamb, KCVO] advising that the President of the Royal Society [Sir Joseph John Thomson, PRS] cannot attend a meeting that day regarding the decoration and illumination of Burlington House. He advises the Royal Society will agree with any proposals the Royal Academy make, and will share the cost. Harrison has looked into electrical illumination of the front of Burlington House along the same lines as installed by the Royal Society for the Coronation of King George in 1911, and thinks that this would be impractical. He also notes industrial action on the part of electricians means that it is unlikely that any company would currently take this on, and the Royal Society's own electricians have said they cannot do the work. He advises given the longer daylight hours at that time of year, it would be inadvisable to incur the cost. Decorative flags used in 1911 were supervised by the Secretary of the Society of Antiquaries, and are still with this Society.
