Title | Copy letter from AH White, Assistant Librarian of the Royal Society; to R Sweeting Esq; 621-627 Chamber of [commerce? typed over] |
Date | 30 January 1920 |
Description | Advises that the birthplace of Sir Isaac Newton, FRS, is still in existence and that there are pictures of it at the Royal Society, but he is unsure about the school house. The Royal Society has the telescope and death mask in their possession. Advises they do not know of a portrait by Raeburn, and asks if this is the correct artist as he lived a century after Newton. , but there are many portraits and prints of Newton, and thinks that some must be available in Rochester. Advises that for his purposes good photographers would be Hinton and Co, 38 Bedford Street, Strand and Baker of High Holborn. [The address is typed over and unclear, but the writer is clearly in Rochester, New York]. |
