Title | Copy letter from Sir William Bate Hardy, FRS, Secretary of the Royal Society; to Dr H [Sir Henry Hallett] Dale, FRS |
Date | 12 February 1920 |
Description | 'Private' written at the top. 'I should imagine the young gentleman needs a little mild kicking. Firstly for being so cocksure, and secondly, for looking at a gift horse, which mounts him pretty high up, so carefully in the mouth. I feel very disinclined to help him, but I will bring it before the Treasurer [Sir David Prain, FRS].' Goes on to say that because Miss Foulerton died within a year of making the bequest, there are heavy death duties, and the Treasurer is unsure if they are in a position to elect two students that year. |
