TitleCopy letter from William Bate Hardy, Secretary of the Royal Society; to Sir Richard Havelock Charles; 9 Manchester Square, W.l.
Date19 May 1921
DescriptionAsks Sir Richard Havelock Charles for help in the following dilemma. Explains that Mr. Sheppard, a Hebrew scholar, has traced an important Hebrew bible, 'Kenn. Codex 128', which was once the property of the Society, to the India Office. Notes that Mr. Sheppard believes this bible belongs in neither the Society nor the India Office but in the British Museum, and that he agrees with him. Asks Sir Charles for his opinion, and whether he ought to apply to the India Office to have the bible returned and then attempt to transfer it to the British Museum.
