Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Sir John Evans, Treasurer, Royal Society |
Date | 22 November 1893 |
Description | Rix explains that the Royal Society granted 30 pounds from the Scientific Relief Fund to Mr Luff, payable by Edward James Stone of the Radcliffe Observatory in three equal instalments. Luff has died prior to receiving the third instalment, and Stone suggests that the 10 pounds might be given to his daughter for funeral expenses. Dr Philip Lutley Sclater, as Chairman of the Scientific Relief Committee, approves of this, and as it does not seem worth calling the committee for this small matter, has asked Rix to get Evans' permission to allow this payment, which will then be made and reported at the next meeting. |
