Your note of the 16th inst was laid before the Officers at their last meeting, and I am instructed to inform you that the Royal Society does not contemplate placing any memorial bust or statue of the late Prof. [Professor] Tyndall in their rooms, unless any such work should be presented by the munificence of some private individual or individuals. The Society as a corporate body has no funds at its disposal for initiating any such work.
I am, yours faithfully,
Asst. Sec. R.S. [Assistant Secretary, Royal Society]'.
