Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Sir John Evans, [Treasurer, Royal Society] |
Date | 22 March 1894 |
Description | Rix supposes Evans to now be on his way home, and so in case the letter he sent should miss him, he is also sending this note to Nash Mills to await his return. He asks whether the Royal Society wish to audit the accounts of the Kew Observatory in addition to their own audit by Lord Rosse, as they entitled to do according to the Memorandum of Association.
The difficulty is caused by the fact that the committee wish to meet on the 30 March to sanction the report which contains their accounts. Rix asks that if Evans has not already responded, that he telegraph Charles Chree at the Observatory to advise him whether he may issue the report without waiting for a further audit.
He also asks, as Michael Foster is abroad, whether they are to write letters to all the Royal people on their Soirée list, as they did the previous year. Although nothing has been said, Rix supposes they are to be asked. Rix also notes that he wlll be away from Easter Monday until 1 April, but that Mr James will be there on the 29 March, but he leaves tomorrow. |
