TitleCopy letter from Michael Foster, to His Excellency the Swedish and Norwegian Minister
Date5 November 1894
DescriptionHis Excellency will doubtless be interested to hear that the Royal Society has this year awarded its Davy Medal to Professor Per Theodor Cleve of Upsala University for his researches on the chemistry of the rare earths. The President [Lord Kelvin, William Thomson] and Officers feel on this account there is special reason why His Excellency should be present for some of the function which is to take place on 30th November.

The President received with regret His Excellency's intimation that it would not be possible to attend the Anniversay Dinner on this date but should any alteration in his engagements make it possible for him to accept the President's invitation, it would be regarded as a special favour by the President and by Professor Cleve. The medals will be distributed at 4pm on the 30th.
