| Description | The letter to Scott-Elliot of 3 August from Sir J Kirk whom Rix asked to communicate with Scott-Elliot on the matter, seems to Rix to state very clearly the position of the Council of the Royal Society in respect to Scott-Elliot's collections.
Any proposal Scott-Elliot sends Rix regarding the disposal of his collections shall be placed before the Council. Suggests the Council are unlikely to approve of any plan which does not provide that the collections should be available for the preparation of the Flora of Tropical Africa and that the first two sets should be retained in England, one at the British Museum and one at Kew [Gardens]. Attaining these two provisions largely guided the Government Grant Committee in making the grant which they did.
Subject to these provisions being secured the Council have nothing whatever to do with the working out or naming of Scott-Elliot's specimens. |
