TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Sir John Evans, Treasurer, Royal Society
Date1 October 1895
DescriptionRix has heard from Dr [Michael] Foster this morning who hopes to be home on 9th October. Foster is strongly of the opinion that they ought to have a Council on the 17th to arrange the Academy letter et cetera, but says that the Treasurer and other Officers must decide. Rix asks if he is to summon a Council.

Foster states that Evans knows all about the Fufunati letter and can decide whether a reply is necessary before Council on the 17th. Professor [Thomas George] Bonney has seen this letter and perhaps this is sufficient.

Foster says that Evans must decide whether any reply to the Foreign Office is needed before the 17th respecting the Government representative at the International Catalogue Conference. Foster thinks they ought to reply that the subject matter is so technical that the Society need not trouble the Government to send a representative.

Foster thinks the Society should get the cards for the reception printed and suggests the inclosed draft [not attached], but wishes Rix to submit this to the Treasurer and other Officers.

Rix received a telegram from Sir Joseph Lister yesterday stating he had 'done as suggested'. Subsequently the enclosed telegram came from Foster [not attached]. Asks if any thing more is needed than the telegram Lister has sent to Madame Pasteur.

The President [Lord Kelvin, William Thomson] is not at all accessible at Largs and Rix is forced to trouble Evans with these matters.

Discusses obtaining Evans' signature for Government Grant cheques.
