TitleCopy letter from Herbert Rix, to Sir John Evans
Date10 October 1895
DescriptionDiscusses the possible engagement of a Miss Handson in the Catalogue Department. If she does not obtain work at the Society she will go back to Cambridge and take another year there. Miss Chambers is very favorably impressed with her. There is an assistant due to the Catalogue in place of Miss Gould, besides the vacancy caused by the retirement of Miss Edwards so Rix thinks the Catalogue Department could not complain if they provisionally appointed some one now. Asks if Evans can see Miss Handson next Thursday and if so at what time, and whther from her letter, he thinks there is a probability of a favorable decision.

Admiral Wharton has just been in and is pressing that something should immediately be done regarding the Fufunati expedition.Wharton asks if they could not assure Professor [Thomas George] Bonney that in all probability the vessel being now granted by Admiralty, the £500 will be forthcoming from the Government Grant, Wharton thinks Bonney could act upon this, but without this nothing could be done.
