| Description | Foster brought the matter of Dixon's paper before the Committee of Papers at its first meeting yesterday and urged as well as he could Cunningham's view of the case. The subject was discussed at great length and in the end it was decided that as Dixon's paper was one of several of the same kind, the conclusion was that they could not change the decision.
Several proposals were made and discussed with the wish to remove the effect of appearing to discourage the work of a young enquirer, as pointed out in Cunningham's letter, but none of these appeared practicable.
The matter must therefore be left as it is.
Foster is personally sorry that the Society cannot adopt Cunningham's suggestion. If Cunningham had been at the meeting and heard the discussion Foster thinks Cunningham would agree to the justice of the decision. Asks if Cunningham would communicate this matter to Joly, or if Cunningham wishes, Foster will write Joly a similar letter. |
