Title | Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Professor Michael Foster |
Date | 12 November 1895 |
Description | Encloses a reply for the Colonies [not attached], who Rix finds are the proper people to address on matters relating to the British Central African protectorate. The Crown Agents ask the Society to pack [microscope and appliances for Dr Wordsworth Poole] and they will pay for the packing. Rix thinks it would be better for the instrument makers to do the packing.
A Treasury letter received yesterday reports that an additional complete copy of the 'Challenger' volume has been 'discovered' and will be presented to the Zoological Institute of the University of Berlin.
Professor Cunningham writes to ask that Dr Dixon's paper be instructed to him, so that he may have it copied. Usually the Society do not let these papers leave the house, but this could be done by a vote of Council. As it is rather a 'sore matter', Foster might feel inclined to instruct Rix to anticipate leave of Council on this point.
Lord Rayleigh [John William Strutt] has returned corrected Council Minutes, but no drafts of letters, so Foster may do them as he has suggested.
Incloses a letter from the Meisenbach Company about Miss Ogilvie's [Maria Gordon] figures [not attached]. Asks to know whether he is to accept the increased estimate. |
