TitleCopy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to Professor Joseph Reynolds Green, Fellow of the Royal Society
Date12 March 1897
DescriptionWrites concerning Green's paper, 'On the Action of Light on Diastase and its Biological Significance'. Rucker is desired by the Committee to communicate the accompanying suggestions upon some points of detail and asks Green to consider the desirability of adopting them before the paper is printed. Will be glad to have Green's views as soon as possible.

A list of suggestions for the author is included: discusses re-titling a table on page 24; on page 27 very important evidence of the existence of a salivary diastase zymogen has been obtained in the case of the horse, H Goldschmidt, Zeitschrift für Physiolog. Chemie, 'Bd. X. (1886), S. 273'; a reference to Fischer's paper should be given on page 29; discusses the fact that chlorophyll is peculiarly transparent to green light.

The author is also requested to consider whether it would not be well to express himself more guardedly as to the utilisation of the absorbed rays. Absorption is a proved fact; its utility is, to a great extent, merely an inference.
