TitleCopy letter from the Chairman of the International Catalogue Committee, to Herrn Professor Dr Friedrich Wilhelm Georg Kohlrausch, Physikalisch-Technische Reichsanstalt, Charlottenburg, Germany
Date13 March 1897
DescriptionThe Chairman was able to lay Kohlrausch's letter of the 7th March before the International Catalogue Committee. The question Kohlrausch posed in this and his former letter, raises issues which may prove to be of considerable complexity.

Of course, there could be no objection on the Society's part to the production of a German translation of the Catalogue, but it is a grave question whether, in the case of an enterprise of much magnitude, it is desirable at present to complicate the issue by considering anything more than the preparation of a single Catalogue in the form contemplated by the late International Conference.

When it is quite clear how this can be accomplished, it will be time to consider what may be done in other directions. The Society in short feels it would be necessary to consider the views of all interested in such a question before giving any definite opinion on such a proposition as Kohlrausch's.

The English Committee is striving, in accordance with the views of the Conference, to make the catalogue as far as possible useful for all nations, and it is to be hoped that the Berlin Academy will not come to any final decision until they can judge how far this end is attained.
