| Description | They Society hears that Professor [James Joseph] Sylvester is to be buried on Thursday and are making enquiries as to place and time. Unfortunately the Council meets on Thursday and it is desirable that neither the President [Lord Joseeph Lister] nor MacMahon nor Greenhill, should be absent.
Lord Lister has therefore requested Rucker to ask whether it would be possible for Rayleigh to attend the funeral as the representative of the Royal Society. He need hardly say that Rayleigh would be doing a great service by consenting.
If Rayleigh is out when this letter is delivered or cannot give an immediate answer, he should send a telegram to Harrison as soon as possible. |
