TitleCopy letter from Robert William Frederick Harrison, to the Secretary of the Australian Museum, Sydney, New South Wales
Date9 July 1897
DescriptionThe President and Council of the Royal Society having at their meeting of 1 July had under consideration the Secretary's letter letter of 17th May with enclosures, decided to withdraw the opposition to the publication of the 'Funafuti Memoir' expressed in Harrison's letter of 11th March preceding, and directed Harrison to cable the Secretary to that effect. This Harrison did on the same day.

The President and Council have not thought it desirable to discuss at length the conflicting statements made by Professor [William Johnson] Sollas on the one hand, and contained on the other hand in the documents forwarded by the Secretary. It is sufficient for them that the Trustees of the Australian Museum were unaware of the instructions drawn up by the Royal Society Committee in reference to the publication of the results of the expedition, and they at once unreservedly withdrew their objections to the publication of Mr Hedley's results by the Australian Museum.
