TitleCopy letter from St George Gore, to William Henry Mahoney Christie, [Astronomer Royal, Fellow of the Royal Society]
Date9 June 1897
DescriptionThey have begun making arrangements for Christie's parties for the forthcoming eclipse. Has not yet heard from the Surveyor General as to the sanction of the Government of India being given to the Trigonometrical Branch Office assisting Christie, but has no doubt they will. Will probably send Captain Burrard to arrange for party two, which Christie will be with, and Captain Conyngham to party number three. It would facilitate matters if Christie would meet Burrard to discuss his requirements, provides Burrard's address.

Proposes sending one of the Office's Transit instruments with break circuit chronometer and chronograph. Has been inquiring into sites for the party number two station. Briefly discusses why the small town of Karad on the Southern Mahvatta Railway is undoubtedly the better of the two proposed sites.

The line of totality shown on the small map sent to Christie is drawn a little too far North.
