TitleCopy letter from Arthur William Rucker, to the Secretary, H.M. Office of Works, Storey's Gate, Westminster, S.W.
Date25 June 1898
DescriptionIn reply to letter, the magnetic records of the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, are affected by the South London Electric Railway, which runs from Stockwell to the City, and there is reason to fear that, unless precautions are taken, the Hanwell-Uxbridge line might similarly affect the Kew Observatory. The amount of risk depends on the position of the generating station and other points which are not at present known. Aside from abandoning the scheme, asks that further steps are taken to protect the Observatory.
